Grandma Iris Checks Out her New Temporary Home

We took Janine's dear Grandma over to the house yesterday to give her a tour inside. This is Iris in the first floor bedroom, which is just off the kitchen. It will be perfect for her stay here while the family home in Metairie is repaired. She will have her own bathroom with an open shower, a walk-in closet, and the kitchen (see below), pantry and laundry room are just 6 feet outside her door.

We could not ask for a better house guest to help christen the new abode with us!

It's Pretty Well Ready for the Move!!!

Friday, September 9th cannot come soon enough after the week we have had. But we are fortunate compared to the many, many others that have touched our lives this week.

Our dream kitchen.

It's going to be one hell of a move-in party and a post hurricane party and an "all of the above party" in a few weeks.

Space Imaging Ikonos Satellite Pic

My good friend Dejan works for Space Imaging in Denver. They took this shot from space a couple of days ago when the skies cleared and overlayed it with the state boundaries. It spans from the western border of the Florida Panhandle, clear across Mobile Bay, Biloxi and on down to all of New Orleans and west of the city. Close to 12,000 square kilometers of destruction... all due to Katrina.

You can see the eastern side of New Orleans at Lake Ponchartrain (the big white blob on the far left) is now blue water right through to the Gulf of Mexico. That used to be St. Bernard Parish and Plaquemines Parish and it includes the Ninth ward of N.O. that keeps being shown under water on TV. St. Bernard Parish has essentially disappeared under water!

All of Janine's family and friends are safe and scattered, mostly in Baton Rouge now. Grandma Iris is with us and is doing well for a 92 year old lady who has undergone all of this! The family home in old Metairie had about a foot of water inside from flooding, but the roof and the 200+ year old Live Oak in the back yard are okay. However, it could be January before they can move back in -- imagine the others that lost it all!
