Francesco Gorshino's Pian di Azie

When we were honeymooning at Il Borro in March-April, 2006, we toured the winery and vineyards and brought back some of their great wine. One was Pian di Nova, which is a very interesting (esp. for Italy) 75% Syrah, 25% Sangiovese blend. The other was their Super Tuscan Il Borro.

Well, about a year ago I got Jimmy's to bring in some of both from Glazer's, and they happily obliged. Paul DiCarlo had never heard of it before and they ended up carrying it regularly. Since then, Janine and I have had the pleasure to get to know an Italian wine guy, who happens to know one heck of a lot about the red juice from Italy. Just the other day, he turned us on to Pian di Azie, from a winery by some joker named Francesco Gorshino, in the province of Arsia in the lower region of the Italian hinterland.

I managed to find a picture of Francesco from his recent tasting in Dallas, where he had a unique, horizontal tasting display of his various vinos. We will look for the source of this Pian di Azie soon!!

I'm actually thinking more along the lines of this less subtle winemaker.
